Job description

£61,416- £67,656 per annum

(We normally offer a starting salary at the start of the range)

Full-time (37.5h) / Fixed Term Contract until Dec 2025

Based in Islington, London

Greenpeace UK is an independent national/regional organisation within the global Greenpeace campaigning network, which acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. The global network of Greenpeace organisations comprises 26 independent national/regional Greenpeace organisations with presence in over 55 countries across Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, as well as a coordinating and supporting organisation, Greenpeace International.

This is a unique opportunity to combine your in-depth knowledge of grassroots organisations and marginalised communities with your proven ability to challenge the status quo and guide people across an organisation towards significant cultural change.

The Greenpeace of today cannot act alone. We need a unified environmental and climate justice movement that fights for justice and the dignity of all. This role is at the heart of our ambitious three-year Allyship Strategy, which seeks to find authentic alignment and solidarity among diverse voices, working alongside frontline and underserved communities, and including allyship in campaigns from the very start.

You’ll provide cross-organisational direction and support to help us achieve our vision whilst the substantive post holder is on secondment to our global organisation. This will involve leading the delivery of the Allyship strategy against year one objectives through relationship building and collaborative working, upskilling and influencing via workshops and other interventions, and ensuring that we are doing everything to grow our movement and reach the broadest range of groups.

Given the fixed term nature of this role, ending on 31 December 2025, we require the successful applicant to start as soon as possible.

Location: Islington, London. Our hybrid working model enables us to enjoy the benefits of both office based and remote working. We ask that staff work from the office in Islington 40% of their time, with 20% required as a minimum. Reasonable adjustments as well as specific office based needs will be considered for those with long term health conditions and disabilities.

Job requirements

What we're looking for:

  • Deep understanding of working with grassroots organisations and marginalised communities to build power and resilience to bring about systemic change – ideally with experience of building coalitions.

  • Practical understanding of the intersections between climate justice, economic justice, racial justice and migrant justice.

  • Knowledge of how to ensure that impacted and marginalised communities are embedded into work that represents them – including through a working knowledge of co-creation or community centred design principles and practice.

  • Experience of managing individuals and also of leading teams in a matrix environment.

  • Ability to influence people at all levels and to bring about organisational change through working with and supporting others to improve their allyship practice.

  • Ability to be a constructive disruptor, identifying the need for change, articulating a compelling vision and guiding people to deliver it.

We give you:
You’ll be encouraged to develop both personally and professionally, taking advantage of the wide range of learning and development opportunities available to our staff. We offer great benefits such as a generous pension scheme, subsidised lunches, free yoga and a wealth of well-being resources, just to name a few. Take a look at our Work for Greenpeace pages to find out more about what it’s like to work for us and why you should apply.
