Greenpeace UK is an independent national/regional organisation within the global Greenpeace campaigning network, which acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. The global network of Greenpeace organisations comprises 26 independent national/regional Greenpeace organisations with presence in over 55 countries across Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, as well as a coordinating and supporting organisation, Greenpeace International.
This is your chance to put your non-violent direct action experience to the best possible use, developing and delivering innovative, impactful strategy and tactics to further Greenpeace campaigns.
Your responsibilities will include the logistical planning, research, risk mitigation, coordination and execution of actions and ships’ operations, in addition to identification of training needs, development of activist networks, collaborations and allyships, plus support for other teams. Working as part of our project teams, you’ll be helping to maintain the highest standards in the delivery of campaigns.
The role is dynamic, fulfilling and demanding. It requires creativity and innovation, and will suit a clear and inspiring communicator with great people skills to complement strong practical and logistical capabilities, healthy risk appetite, and a flair for purposeful mischief.
Location: Islington, London. Our hybrid working model enables us to enjoy the benefits of both office based and remote working. We ask that staff work from the office in Islington 40% of their time, with 20% required as a minimum. Reasonable adjustments as well as specific office based needs will be considered for those with long term health conditions and disabilities.
Job requirements
You'll have:
Good understanding and experience of non-violent direct action campaigning, including how actions are researched, planned and executed, plus expert knowledge of relevant Health & Safety and legal considerations.
Expertise in one or more of (plus ability to become expert in one other): ships/marine operations; inflatable boat driving; climbing; photography/video; design; event organising; creative development of concepts; collaborative grassroots action planning and movement building; integration of diversity and inclusion principles in action design and delivery.
Proven ability to innovate in relation to direct actions strategy and tactical work.
Skills in project management, risk management/mitigation, budgeting, maintaining administration systems, leadership/conflict resolution and communicating complex information in an accessible and engaging way.
A full, clean driving licence and ability to cope with the physical side of the job.
Willingness to work unsocial hours, to undertake durational ship tours and to travel both within the UK and internationally.

The role is based in our London office. As we progress to a hybrid working model, you may have flexibility to work from home, but you will need to commute into our Islington head office on a regular basis.
